1 Kings 19
God Meets Us Where We Are

Join us for the fifth evening of Campmeeting 2026 at historic New Prospect Methodist Campground in Vancleave, Mississippi! In this powerful message, Rev. Jeff Switzer continues the series on the life of Elijah, turning from the mountaintop victory of Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18) to the valley of discouragement in 1 Kings 19.

After calling down fire from heaven and seeing a great outpouring of rain, Elijah receives a death threat from Jezebel. Overcome by fear, exhaustion, and a sense of failure, the bold prophet flees into the wilderness, collapses under a broom tree, and prays that God would take his life. In one of the most tender scenes in the Old Testament, God does not rebuke him. Instead, He meets Elijah exactly where he is—providing rest, food, water, a gentle touch from an angel, and ultimately a quiet, personal encounter at Mount Sinai through a still, small voice.

Key Themes:

  • God is the same in the fire of chapter 18 and the silence of chapter 19.
  • Often after our greatest victories come our deepest challenges.
  • The Lord ministers to our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  • He restores the drained, discouraged, and weary soul—not with a sermon, but with grace, presence, and the whisper of His voice.
  • Even when the fire seems to go out, God’s faithfulness does not.

This message is especially for anyone walking through a “1 Kings 19 season”—tired, overwhelmed, fearful, or wondering if God has overlooked you. Hear the invitation: He sees you, He knows you, He is not finished with you, and He is drawing near.
